I have been fascinated with my family history since I could walk. My earliest memories include going to my maternal grandmother's closet, pulling out her shoeboxes full of old photos and quizzing her on who the people were. Often she knew exactly who they were. Over the years, my mom and I would pull out those photos and write the identities of the people in them on the back.
I wasn't as successful at finding out who my ancestors were with my father's mother. She didn't have many photos due to the Holocaust and she refused to speak about her family or her past.
My interest in genealogy and discovering the stories and solving the mysteries of my family's ancestors has grown over the years. I've been actively researching all my lines simultaneously for decades and the internet has made my search much easier.
My various family lines originate in Poland, Russia and the Ukraine. Many of my ancestors emigrated from Eastern Europe to France, England, Scotland, Canada, the United States, Israel, Argentina, Brazil, Australia...thanks to the wonders of dna testing, I have discovered many cousins living in virtually every corner of the world including Asia and Africa.
The surnames I am researching are Goldberg, Rosenzweig, Goldshlager, Chartman, Jacobowitz, Katz, Brodsky, Mitnaretzky, Inwentarz, Kranz.
I will begin my next post with the family line which has eluded me the most. Goldberg.
